Members of the Vusisizwe Senior Secondary School Astronomy Club use their North and South equipment to observe the night sky
North and South is an international science education project between organisations in the United Kingdom, South Africa and the United States of America.
The project aims to allow young people and teachers in the three countries to work together to discover our amazing Universe and share in our cultural heritages.
The UK student Science Ambassadors from DSFC visited South Africa July 23rd - August 6th 2005. They worked with six schools in Cape Town townships and, in partnership with SA student Science Ambassadors from Worcester, two schools in Sutherland. A half day of practical space science activities were carried out with over 500 learners. The students also worked at the South Africa Astronomical Observatory to research for a web-based science learning resource themed on the new Southern African Large Telescope which are published on this site.
