Michael King
My name is Michael King. I am 17 years old and at Dereham 6th Form. I study Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Computing. With computing design and code websites, and create programs for mathematical purposes.
I tend to focus on the theoretical side of astronomy, working out problems and coming up with solutions!
Other than science I enjoy climbing, skiing, taekwondo and wargaming.
I was in the Air Training Corps for 2 years and in that time have flown planes, and gone on military exercises.
This experience with the North and South Project has been life changing for
me. I have seen a part of the world that I thought I could only look at
through a television. The teaching that we have given the learners has been
amazing, and now I want to pursue in becoming a teacher myself!
But for me, the best part of the trip was probably visiting Yolanda's home in
Zweletembo. The idea of being embraced in this area that few people from
outside of the townships get to see was breath taking. It made me think.
It was strange, because after arriving in Cape Town and driving past the
townships for the first time, I thought one thing. But working with the
children, and learning from them as they were learning from us, changed what I
thought. When we returned to Cape Town International Airport, as I saw the
townships, I saw hope for the future.
