Space Science Lesson Ideas and Links

Hi, my name is Mike Cripps (the one on the left). I'm the UK science teacher who is leading the North and South project. I have been deeply involved with developing space science education resources since 2001. Being a working teacher, I need things that really work; things that get student's attention and that help them learn. I hope that other educators will find this selection of activities useful. Please feel free to modify them to your own needs. If you use our resources, please let us know
Basketball Earth an ice breaking demonstration to get learners thinking about sizes
Measuring the diameter of the Sun with a Metre Stick - a great follow on class practical to Basketball Earth that only needs basic equipment
North and South planetarium presentation (117kB Word doc) - this presentation is specifically designed to be used with the East of England Science Learning Centre's COSMODYSSEE III planetarium but could be adapted for use with most planetaria.
Space Rocks - resources about meteorites and asteroids designed for learning aspects of the science curriculum.
Space observatories in School an online resource of challenges set by space scientists who use orbiting telescopes with support material including presentaions on the Big Bang and the lives of stars
Our Star lots of lesson ideas about the Sun
