LTI offers affordable Project STAR Hands-on Science Kits, developed by high school teachers and scientists at the Harvard Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics as well as its latest innovation, Sunspotter—The Safer Solar Telescope. Our goal is to provide innovative, high-quality, affordable tools and materials to educators that foster interactive and hands-on learning while motivating students of all ages. Our products reflect our belief that students will better learn a concept when they explore and then test their own theories using minds-on tools and materials that challenge, inspire and generate enthusiasm. It is also our aim to contribute astronomy education opportunities where they may never have existed previously.
Learning Technologies Products were used by the North and South Science Ambassadors in their programme of space science education with South African learners and educators. Two Sunspotters were a big hit with learners. They are now part of the kit clubs run by the South African Astronomical Observatory and the Universtiy of the Western Cape. They can be borrowed by SA schools.
