Science Learning Centre – East of England

“Professional development in science teaching”

The Science Learning Centres are a joint initiative by the Department for Education and Skills and the Wellcome Trust.

The Science Learning Centre East of England provides twenty-first-century facilities and the knowledge to explore all areas of science education which goes beyond any traditional definitions of subjects. The main venue is at the Bayfordbury Campus of the University of Hertfordshire . The newly refurbished state-of-the-art premises offer opportunities for field work using the lake, woodland and observatory, while courses draw on sports science and art and design to give teachers and technicians a new perspective on their subject.

In 2005-6 a course run by North and South teacher, Mike Cripps, will include National Curriculum targeted resources developed for for the project. A portable planetarium and a range of telescopes are also available from the centre.
