When I was at school, I wanted to be a medical doctor.  I did maths at university and although I liked science I didn’t do any physics or astronomy until my final year project which was on solar physics.  I then did my masters degree in space science and it was only because of a bet with my stepdad that I applied for and did a PhD at St Andrews University, London.  This took 3 years and I came to Goddard straight after that.  In my spare time I am a professional ballroom and Latin-American dance teacher and I am a fellow of the International Dance Association.
